It’s “We Forgot To Post Tuesday’s Tutorial” Wednesday

Well, I never claimed to be perfect!  Case in point:  it’s taken me until Wednesday to get this week’s Tuesday Tutorial posted.  But I’m making amends, and so today is “We Forgot To Post Tuesday’s Tutorial” Wednesday. (Better late than never, I always say.)  So without further ado, here’s this weeks’ tutorial, brought to you by me – Kathleen, from Bungalow Boutique.

I’m going to show you how to turn an ugly duckling old mirror into a modern marvel like this cute little blue mirror with a minimal investment of both time and money!

First, drag one of those ugly old mirrors out of your basement storage.  I chose this old gilt mirror.  It has definitely seen better days, as you can probably tell by the numerous cracks, and the missing plaster.  So I didn’t feel too bad about giving it a quick makeover.

Next, buy a can of spray paint in your favorite color (they have SO many cute colors of spray paint these days!).  I used Rust-Oleum’s Satin Aqua.  Gather together just a few other necessities, like some masking tape, a sheet of newspaper or newsprint, and a pair of scissors.

Now, just lay the piece of newsprint on top of the glass portion of the mirror, and trace around the edge.  This will give you a cutting line.  Then just cut out about 1/4″ inside the line so that you’ll have some room to apply the tape to the mirror.

Next, tape the cut out piece of newsprint onto the glass, making sure to line the tape up very close to the frame (otherwise you’ll have a nice blue outline of paint on your mirror!).

Now you’re ready to take your mirror outside (preferably not on a windy day), and spray a light coat of paint on the sides and front of your frame.

And when you’re all done, it will be so purdy, just like this, and you’ll want to hang it right up!

But I recommend that you wait until the paint dries, and you can remove the paper and tape.  Because then it will look like this!  And you will be so happy with your fun, cheery new mirror!
